We lead the way with BIM within the construction industry, by launching BIM objects for our products. These BIM objects are free to download within our Members’ Area and are available in user-friendly Revit format and are Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and COBie compatible.
For those in the construction industry, the term BIM (Building Information Modelling) is being used more and more regularly. But what exactly is BIM? And how does it benefit project planning?
Many researchers and BIM users alike proclaim that BIM will evolve into Building Information Optimisation (BIO). The introduction of BIO will mark the turn of the century in architecture and design.
Our team of in-house CAD designers have a wealth of experience, having helped to design partitioning schemes for some of the most prestigious buildings in the UK and across the globe.
Their creativity and technical expertise ensure that we have the capacity to offer bespoke solutions, as well as standard products, that fully meet the required aesthetic and acoustic demands of a project. We provide clients with expert guidance throughout the design process, from initial discussions with the architect at the very start of the process, right through to project handover.
We currently provide a number of BIM objects, which you can access for free by registering via the Member’s Area of our website. These include 3D Autodesk Revit family files (RFA), which are user-friendly and provide a fully certified Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) export. We also provide 2D product details in the form of Autodesk AutoCAD files (DWG) and important performance data in the form of specification templates, acoustic and fire rated performance certificates.
All our in-house designers are familiar with BIM execution plans provided by the main contractors. These requirements change from project to project, as each client has their own standards that they wish to adhere to. Our families can be adapted from LOD 1-5 at any stage of a project and our asset data increases in complexity as the project progresses.
Our design team works in collaboration with your project team to provide a set of shop drawings and/or models, in time for manufacture and construction. We co-ordinate with other sub-contractors to pre-empt and resolve any potentially problematic interfaces prior to the construction stage. The use of Autodesk Navisworks provides a powerful planning and analysis tool in this area.
BIM helps to enhance a construction project in many ways, for example, by reducing cost, allowing better visualisation and increasing the speed of delivery.
This is achieved by collaborating with other companies and collecting data and information about each product, which is then placed into a 3D model, such as Revit, and is converted into a Cobie spreadsheet. The information obtained is used throughout the lifespan of a project, from design to construction. It can also be used to help with future maintenance of a building.
What winning ISG’s “Never Stop Learning” Award meant to us. In 2013 Gerard Milliken, our Design Manager made a commitment to ISG promising to meet a set standard. Six years later we are still striving to meet that standard on every project we complete. And on 28th March 2019, the delivery of our promise was recognised.
