Optima supplied and installed double glazed Revolution throughout the meeting rooms, complete with double glazed doors in Microflush aluminium door frames. The glazed side panels incorporated room booking systems.
The Crystal’s interactive exhibition will guide visitors through the urban infrastructure of the future, focusing upon possibilities for sustainable mobility, building technologies, power and water supplies and healthcare.
Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects, the Crystal is located on the Royal Victoria Docks, London. The uniquely shaped glass-clad structure is dramatic and the crystal shaped building has created a new independent global hub for debate on sustainable urban living and development.
Perkins + Will, the lead consultant and interior architect, alongside quantity surveyor Turner and Townsend and main contractor ISG, worked closely with Optima, ensuring the specific and detailed partitioning product throughout the internal space was integral to the interior concept.
Whilst the meeting rooms throughout level one used standard Optima product, the design of the partitions on level 2 was more bespoke in nature. Free standing office pods were created using single glazed Optima 117 plus with structural beams at the head and Kinetic Seal sliding glass doors. In addition, Optima installed bespoke raked structural glass fins using 25mm glass with an opaque interlayer, which were supported from the slab above.
The Crystal represents an investment of approximately £30 million by Siemens and is the flagship of Siemens’ infrastructure and cities sector.
