A versatile, cost-effective and resilient concrete was selected as the prime material for the building; reducing embodied carbon by 30% and increasing resistance to harsh chemicals circulating in Masdar’s environment. Gonzalo Seminario, sustainability team leader, said: ‘We delivered a low embodied carbon building that achieved a LEED Core and Shell Platinum certification, which met all Masdar sustainability performance indicators.’ This huge commitment to sustainability has been recognised by prestigious construction and architectural awarding bodies, as the project has won numerous prizes including the International Property Awards Arabia and Iconic Award for Corporate Architecture.
Undoubtedly, the building’s interior played a huge role in attaining these victories. Optima worked with Bluehaus to create a sustainable working environment which was complementary to the project’s exterior. The versatile, timeless Optima 117 plus system was selected for its ability to create the illusion of open spaces whilst partitioning certain areas for privacy. As Optima 117 plus gives the effect of vast areas of unsupported glass, the design reflected the client’s desire to ensure natural flow of light throughout the entire building.
In addition to Optima’s 117 plus system, Optima’s back painted glass and lift lobby doors are key features of the design. Back painted glass is available in various shades depending on the aesthetic requirements of the client.
Optima is proud to have worked on such a prestigious, award-winning project, which is an outstanding example of how the GCC region is setting the benchmark for remarkable sustainable buildings across the globe.
